FROM THEN...
Founded in 1987 by Larry Hall and a small group of passionate University of Georgia students, the Ice Dawgs began as a vision to bring competitive hockey to Athens. What started as a grassroots club team has grown into one of the premier collegiate hockey programs in the Southeast. Over the decades, the program has built a proud tradition of success, developing talented student-athletes, competing against top regional rivals, and earning multiple conference championships along the way.
The growth of Georgia Hockey was fueled by dedicated players, coaches, alumni, and supporters who helped transform the Ice Dawgs into a respected force within collegiate club hockey. Among those influential figures was John Hoos, a former player, four-time conference all-star, and later head coach, who helped elevate the program during a pivotal period of its history.

Today, the Ice Dawgs continue that tradition of excellence as members of College Hockey South, competing against many of the top programs throughout the region. With four conference championships, eleven Savannah Hockey Classic titles, and a passionate fan base behind them, the future of Georgia Hockey has never been brighter. As the program enters its next chapter, the Ice Dawgs proudly call the state-of-the-art Akins Ford Arena home, bringing fast-paced collegiate hockey to downtown Athens and creating an exciting game-day experience for fans, students, alumni, and the entire Bulldog community.
