Floral Park, NY native Brandon Ng’s journey from the youth leagues of Long Island to the University of Georgia Ice Dawgs has been marked by determination, versatility and a passion for the game.

A standout on the ice, Ng has quickly established himself as a key contributor to the team’s offensive lineup, accumulating five points—one goal and four assists—in his first 11 games this season.

Ng’s passion for hockey began at the age of six, but his athletic background spans several sports, including football, basketball, lacrosse and baseball.

He decided to stick with hockey because he “felt that hockey was a sport that was unique.”

“On and off the ice the hockey community and teams I’ve played for were always so closely connected. It always felt like one big family every time I was on the ice,” Ng said.

The sport’s unique blend of camaraderie and competition is what kept him committed.

Ng said, “Hockey was also always the most enjoyable sport for me. There was always something to improve on, so going to practice was something I looked forward to.”

Before coming to Georgia, he played for the Long Island Edge (East Junior Prospect League), Long Arrows (Tier 1 Hockey Federation League), as well as Chaminade High School (Catholic High School Hockey League), where he played alongside his current teammate, sophomore James Hedquist. The two were reunited this fall when Ng joined the Ice Dawgs.

He also met freshman Zach Noll at orientation. The pair quickly realized that they shared two things in common: their love for hockey as well as both being from Long Island, NY.

One of his favorite hockey memories was during his 16u season with the Long Island Edge.

“I was able to compete in the New York State tournament in Buffalo, NY,” Ng said.

What sparked his interest in the University of Georgia was the “great academics the school has to offer.”

He continued, “Not only are the academics great, but everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming towards me. The school also has great athletics, especially the football team.”

Ng is currently majoring in Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering, balancing the rigors of college coursework with his love for the game.

His decision to join the Ice Dawgs was an easy one.

“I wanted to continue playing the sport I love,” Ng said.

A dynamic player known for his quick feet and sharp reflexes; Ng has proven to be an asset in the offensive zone.

With the first semester behind the Ice Dawgs, he is focused on maintaining their strong start as the season progresses.

“I’m looking forward to keeping the momentum going into the second half of the season,” Ng said.

Off the ice, he enjoys spending time with friends and family, going to the beach, and fishing. One of his fondest memories with his younger brother was fishing in Florida together.

Ng credits his parents to be two of his biggest inspirations.

“My parents are my role models. They are such great people and I strive to become just like them. They are always there for me when needed and they are always leading me in the right direction,” Ng said.

As a freshman, Ng has already made a significant impact on the Ice Dawgs, and if his early performance is any indication, he’s a player to watch in the years to come.

With his combination of talent, work ethic, and passion for the game, Brandon Ng is poised for a bright future on the ice.
