Athens, GA. — The University of Georgia Ice Dawgs look to meet the Michigan State Spartans at home this weekend on Nov. 7 and 8 at Akins Ford Arena.
Georgia is currently ranked first in the ACHA Men’s Division II Southeastern Conference Hockey with Auburn close behind. Though Michigan State is not a conference rival, another win this weekend could help solidify this ranking and maintain their current win streak.
The Ice Dawgs have won their past five games and they hope to continue the streak against the Spartans with the help of their captain, senior forward, Evan Parente, who wears No. 3. Parente is looking to reach his own personal milestone this weekend and in the next few weeks on his journey to 100 career points. He is only eight points away from this milestone.
The Spartans hope to hold off the Ice Dawgs and continue their own win streak with rookie forwards No. 16 Sean McCarthy and No. 2 Nolan Kaminski who have 11 and 10 goals respectively this season. The two rookies lead their team in goals and both have eight assists, making them key players to look out for this weekend.
Georgia opposes this new freshmen offense with their deep defensemen roster and senior forwards, including No. 13 Ryan Bailey and No. 29 Declan Conway who helped lead the team to a 10 – 0 victory against the Yellowjackets on Oct. 24 with two goals each.
The game tomorrow on Nov. 7 is at 7 p.m. for Prostate Cancer Awareness, featuring a jersey auction sponsored by Dr. Ronald Terry and benefiting the Athens Cancer Society and UCBC Cares Foundation. The following game on Nov. 8 will be held at 3 p.m. and will feature the Redcoat Alumni Band.
