UGA Edges Michigan State in Overtime Thriller, 6–5

The University of Georgia hockey team delivered an unforgettable performance Friday night, defeating Michigan State 6–5 in a nail-biting overtime showdown. The Bulldogs showcased resilience and offensive firepower, overcoming a late Spartan surge to secure the win.

Fast Start for the Bulldogs

UGA wasted no time setting the tone. Declan Conway opened the scoring at 4:37 of the first period, burying a shot off a crisp setup from Ryan Bailey and Evan Parente. Just minutes later, Bailey doubled the lead at 8:57, assisted by Truman Haugen, giving Georgia a 2–0 advantage heading into the second frame.

Second Period Fireworks

Michigan State struck early in the second, scoring just 27 seconds in, but Conway answered at 3:54, again with help from Parente. Bailey added his second goal of the night at 9:06, assisted by Parente, and Jordan Sirota extended the lead to 5–1 at 10:41, thanks to assists from Dylan Punzenberger and Charles Kerrigan.

Spartans Storm Back

The Spartans refused to go quietly. They scored with one second left in the second period, then mounted a furious comeback in the third, netting three unanswered goals to tie the game at 5–5 and force overtime.

Overtime Heroics

UGA needed just 41 seconds in the extra frame to seal the victory. Spencer Watson delivered the game-winner, finishing a beautiful play orchestrated by Evan Moore and Truman Haugen. The Bulldogs bench erupted as Watson’s shot found the back of the net, capping a dramatic night.

Between the Pipes

Goaltender Isaac Haugen was a cornerstone for Georgia, stopping 55 of 60 shots in a high-pressure performance. UGA managed 38 shots on goal, making the most of their opportunities.
